Overheating can damage the engine and should be treated seriously. Common causes include low coolant, radiator blockage, poor ventilation and overload.
Check whether hot radiator air is being pulled back into the air inlet. Recirculation is a common generator room design problem.
Clean the radiator carefully, verify coolant concentration and test the generator under controlled load.
